  • What’s in a name?

    I usually try to reward myself with a 711 coffee after a workout, and today wasn’t any different. Like a number of other 711s this one also had an attendant from the Indian SubContinent. His name was Shishir.

    Out of curiosity, I asked him if the locals are able to speak his name. And I wasn’t really surprised by the response… They are not. They end up calling him Shi, or ShiShi and some other names. And it’s ok. There are names which are hard to pronounce and this is also not the reason why I am writing this post.

    I asked him for the meaning of his name, and he told me something very interesting. His name means Autumn, and he was named Shishir as his father’s name is Vasant (Spring). Shishir follows Basant (after summer but still) and that is one of the reasons why his name is Shishir!

    Great Minds think alike!!!

    I disagree!

    If the minds are that great, they will probably not be thinking alike, but better! if all great minds were thinking alike… All of them would have been making the same light bulb, or a radio or a telephone, or music!

    But we see so many great things around us, and they have been given to us by great people with great minds! and for all I know they were thinking different to give us a variety of greatness!!!

    Great minds might support other great thoughts, but they for sure do not think alike in my opinion!

    Blah!!!
    Chuck it!!!! I do not want to think about the fact that getting about 6-7 hours of sleep these days is a luxury, thanks to the bucketloads of things that are happening in my life currently!!! I however feel very sad that Jas was here in India and I was not able to give her anytime. I am really sorry Jas!
    Pa, on my request, found the weights that have not been used for the last 3 years… Loads of dust, coupled with rust makes them look sad, but they still weigh the same 🙂 and a bit of cleaning and oiling the bolts would make them work just right! the first step to some light weights happened today in the morning! good!
    Am trying to figure out how to make time for some photography or related work… I have not been able to edit a single photo in about 2 months! There is no mention o a quick Jaipur trip on my blog or my flickr page! and there are atleast 30 odd photographs that I still need to transfer to my laptop! Am thinking of giving photography a break for a while and restart afreash sometime in future! Knowing myself, I would not be able to stay away from it for long!
    Am also doing very exciting things at work! Very new to me and probably a unique role otherwise too, and there are times when I struggle because till the time I do not know which side the shore is, I do not really like to swim! And this time around, its wide open spaces all around for now! Lets see how things shape up with time!
    The Beat is running very fine!!! Its still extremely silent after 2000kms on the dash! I love the way this car moves around in slow traffic, quick response time, decent airconditioning, sharp turning radius and comfortable sitting, make this a good city car! and I am realising that driving a sedan in city traffic is not really worth it! so hatchbacks its going to be for me in the city!!!
    Here is a song that I have been listening to and enjoying since my college days, and I am still very very fond of it, me being able to sing it decently being one of the few reasons for it as well!

  • Sheikh, Apni Apni Dekh

    8 days since I published last!!! not fair! there has been so much happening that a lot of things, I had time for when I out of the country, have taken a back seat!

    I guess its just a phase…though the last two weekends and the week has been very very good! in ways more than one! along with some sidey not so good things too!!!

    Got to know a few nice people in Chandigarh, making the stay here a lot better than I had expected… driving to work and back does not take more than 15 minutes and its a pleasure to drive… the chill in the mornings and the breeze in the evenings is a pleasure to experience!

    Ashu flew off to Mauritius for his project yesterday… which is another good news! I am proud of him!

    Radha is doing great, and I am enjoying my long drives with her! we have driven about 2000kms already after I came back! I think in all I must have driven close to about 100,000 kms in the last 6 years! I like it!

    I saw Ishqiya! and it turned out to be a bummer! Naseer wasted, Arshad and Vidhya underutilized, weak plot, slow pace… not sure if there was much about the movie that I liked except a couple of songs and some stills from the lighting point of view… my favorite being the opening sequence of the movie! and it just went downhill from there!!! My favorite line from the movie being. “Sheikh, Apni Apni Dekh”.

    There is a whole lot happening other than the regular movie, home, work business, and I am very excited and at the same time a bit nervous about it… but I kind of believe that things are going to turn out just right!

    It’s really a matter of time…
    Isn’t it? or is it?
    Imagine a situation where you can move 100 times as fast as anything imaginable… would you be able to walk right into future? theoretical, maybe! because you have moved ahead of everyone, everything… but it’s a li’il hard to imagine.. but imagine a time when what takes 24 hours for the rest of everything you know, can be done in, say, 10 hours by you…A controlled increase in speed should take you to a “relative” future state…
    Also if you are able to slow down… like reeeeeeeeeally reeeeeeeeeeally slow down, would you not be able to move back into the past? because the rest of the world has moved ahead! and so has the trees, and the earth, and the snow and everything else too… going by the same example… 24 hours for the rest of the existence would mean, umm let’s say, 36 for you…and a controlled reduction in speed should take you to a “relative” past.
    if you can switch between the fast and slow at your own sweet will, you will be able to time travel!
    This of-course depends heavily on what you consider a constant… because present, past and future are only relative terms… tomorrows’ past is today, but today is also yesterday’s future… so be a li’il careful with choosing your reference marks! also if the reference moves around then the entire calculation of the past, present and future can go for a toss, and you will land up in a totally parallel world! How about that!
    I really wish I was able to pictorially or visually represent what I am writing right now! damn it!
