  • Losing Data

    is not a nice thing!

This time around, I made myself lose a lot of it after I removed all of Chai ki dukaan’s posts, and did a fresh install.. the reasons being simple. Its easier to build something fresh instead of trying to fix minor issues!

The last time I moved from blogger to wordpress (about 14 months ago I believe) I lost information on more than about 175000 visits on the page which were tracked by blogger, and started gathering information afresh, and now when I started rebuilding Chai ki Dukaan, I lost information about 60000 visits.

There is some part of the stats that are being tracked by Google Analytics, however I liked watching site stats via Jetpack!

Time to start afresh though! Its a good thing in a way!

Did you ever have a deja vu that you had a deja vu about you having a deja vu, as soon as you felt you had a deja vu?

  • New Year Fresh Start

Decided to drop AndPictures from the list of websites/names that I manage/keep! Will consolidate everything on for Chai ki Dukaan now!

This space would now contain most of what I do except Wedding Photography and Baby/Family Portfolios! You should head over to Knot Just Pictures to see some of that!

Please do expect loads of photography work to come to Chai ki Dukaan now… both on the website as well as the facebook page : www.facebook.com/chaikidukaan

    Thank for being around folks!

  • Chai ki Dukaan has less bounce

Bounce usually is a word that a lot of us Indians, who are happy talking about cricket and pitches, refer to when we are talking about a match.

In Internet terms, Bounce or Bounce Rate is a term which is used to identify a percentage of visitors who visit the site and bounce off, without viewing other pages within the same site… Usually this number should be low, and is a reflection of what percentage of your visitors continued to click on the links on your website, and and were browsing sub-sections of the website.

For blogs which show complete posts on the main page (such as Chai ki Dukaan), it could be relatively high… all it means is that someone might have read through the content on the main page (which is where the latest content is present) and did not go to archives, or any other links.

Over the last few months, the bounce rate for Chai ki Dukaan has reduced, which basically means that more people are now staying around and clicking on links which take them to other posts in the blog. This coupled with the average time spent on Chai ki Dukaan (which has shown a positive trend) is a nice thing!

Thank you everyone who is visiting Chai ki Dukaan and reading through! Means a lot to me!

  • Chai ki Dukaan on its new platform…

Has been doing reasonably well in the last few weeks!!! Here are a few observations wrt moving from blogger to wordpress!

    Rajasthan Drive - Part 3-9

    • WordPress as a platform gives blogging a little more professional feeling than blogger… Feels a bit more mature in terms of how services are delivered via wordpress including the themes, plugins, widgets etc.
    • Addition of a lot of fancy plugins slowed down the website to an irritating extent, however have tried to sort that out by understanding more about “under the hood” stuff! Also I am using Cloudflare services to make the website faster
    • WordPress gives better control over management of media (used photographs so far only though) and has much better ways to present them (using various plugins)
    • I have really liked the way I can now arrange my posts in categories and tags now, and also work on displaying them accordingly. Menus are a welcome change for me too. Browsing to content of interest is now way much easier.
    • I am not too sure about how SEO works, however the plugin that I am using for SEO seems to be doing its job alright!
    • WP integration with other social media platforms also seems to be a much tighter in comparison with blogger(mostly thanks to the third party plugins though)
    • The website, in my opinion, looks more clean and neat! Though I have heard the exact opposite from a few friends 🙂
    • Most importantly, I am liking the exploration of wordpress so far, and have been more actively adding content to Chai ki Dukaan!
    • Blogger was definitely lighter to use, and quicker to load! Changing of colors and tweaking a theme was easier on blogger, and never felt the need to know code there… here I feel that with learning some code, I can do better!
    • I move away from Google, where a single signon was working nice.. with wordpress, I have to move away from Single Signon
    • And I missed this one when I wrote the post initially… When I imported the content from Blogger to WordPress, though it was a simple process, it took me a number of attempts before I could import everything! That meant that I was partially successful with the import, deleted whatever was imported, and tried it again, and followed the same cycle a few times before I had everything… and when it all finished, I still did not have the comment contents, only the comment writers and number of comments for each post! too bad!

More later, as I explore more…
