  • McLeodganj, Kangra (Himachal Pradesh, India)

I have been to Mcleodganj a couple of times, and have loved the experience… While going through my old work, came across a folder of images which was earlier on flickr and is not longer accesible… Here are a few good ones and the album below…

This small town a few kilometers ahead of Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh offers a variety of options for almost all kinds of travelers, the religious can go to temples around, the tourist can enjoy walking around the town and take cabs to nearby locations to enjoy the nature… the foodies can eat at a number of restaurants which serve a variety of food… the trek types can trek to Triund and other places… What a complete package this place is!

  • Pushkar, Rajasthan

I have written about this trip earlier here, and some pictures were also posted in Flickr, however after my FlickrPro account expired and I decided to continue with the free one, these photographs are no longer available on Flickr.

Some photographs from a trip to the Holy Towns of Pushkar and Ajmer…

A quote stressing the fact that effort has to work with luck! It translates to “luck can give you flour but not make bread for you…“

An interesting arrangement here… An empty chair, however the man in the picture chooses to let it be and sit on the pavement!

This is the Ajmer Sharif Dargah! What I love about Mosques and Gurudwaras is that you cannot enter them (or atleast the instructions say so) without washing your hands and feet.

Getting three generations in one single photograph is always a pleasure!

There was something very intriguing about this little girl. So engrossed in her own world!

Here is the entire album for you….

  • Dev Anand is here to stay!

He might have died yesterday, however he is going to be around for as long as time stays! For as long as people would be

    • going on long drives
    • playing Antakshri
    • participating in singing competitions
    • singing to feel good
    • watching classic India Cinema
    • enjoying listening to oldies by Hemant Kumar, Kishor Kumar, Mohd. Rafi and such

Dev Anand is not going to sign any new autographs for sure, but what he did is going to remain!

    Forever!

And if I talk about myself, Dev Anand’s golden collection from HMV is going to be playing in my car every single time I drive back home from long drives! I call it the “driving home” music! I would not even know where to start from when it comes to selecting a favorite, however here is one that seems apt today!!

  • Lane Driving is inSane Driving!

There is a 90km roadtrip that I do every day for work, and pass by a bottleneck which was initially supposed to be a flyover to ease traffic movement! Please welcome the RTR Flyover, or Rao Tula Ram Flyover!
Delhi has its fair share of flyovers, and they have really helped the traffic movement! The number of vehicles increasing is what causes the jams! not these flyovers! This one however has a history!
When RTR was inaugurated, traffic was allowed to move from Subroto Park/Gurgaon/Airports towards RK Puram! Someone in the Delhi Traffic Police realised that it was causing way too many jams, and reversed the traffic flow… So now this 3 lane flyover was for people moving from RK Puram/Vasant Vihar/Munirka towards Subroto Park/Gurgaon/Airports, and started causing the jam on the other side!
Some more brainstorming made it a time bound flyover… mornings one side, and evenings the other side! So jams now moved from one side to the other!
And finally, they have now allowed traffic from both sides to use the flyover, the middle lane is used as a the imaginary median, and there is enough space kept at the entry for a single lane traffic on both sides!
All of these approaches had their followers and critics both, but what boggles me at times is that why could they not build a wider flyover like the 1000s others in Delhi!

But this post is not about what you have just read! this post is about what you are going to read, if you have reached this far!
There is a trick to get onto the RTR… I have labelled the approaching traffic lanes as
    1. Sharafat Lane (This is the right most lane)
    2. Badmash Lane (Second to the right most)
    3. Badtameez Lane (Third/Fourth to the right most)
    4. Pencho Lane (Any other lane)
Now as the names suggest, the Sharafat lane is the slowest of them all… If you are stuck here, you are probably going to enter the flyover after 3 vehicles from Pencho Lane, 2-3 from Badtameez Lane, and 2 from Badtameez Lane have zoomed past… Let’s see how this looks like from the top usually!

  • Minneapolis and the kabootar and the baby hunter

One of my fondest memories of all times would be driving around in sub-urbs of Minneapolis with Pritam, Deepak, Lakhan, and Sapna with Delhi-6 songs playing!!!
I remember this weekend where we must have heard Sasural Genda Phool and Masakali atleast 50 times or maybe more!!! I think this was the weekend when I met Pritam’s baby hunter for the first time!
As per Pritam this was a hunter who was still a baby… not to forget that we are talking about a Nissan Xterra here! To accept that it was still a baby at that size was very tough for almost all of us… And somehow the title baby hunter, tilted towards the car being someone who hunted babies more!!
Nevertheless, the whole Minneapolis downtown gang and the cars, and the drives are some thing worth remembering for a very very long time to come!!
